The Conway High School Mock Trial team has officially resumed practice again as of December 2, 2022. They have begun practice in order to prepare for the Arkansas State Mock Trial tournament that will begin February 11, 2022. The team has previously been preparing for the Empire Mock Trial competition in Chicago, IL, but has shifted their focus after competing there towards the end of October. The team’s first string of members includes Lexi Aikman, Tanaya Deshpande, Avery Ferguson, Zirui Feng, Natalie Hood, and Daniel Taft. Penelope Wilson, Rebecca Corona, and Kaylee Miller are substitutes and potential timekeepers for each match. Practice takes place two to three times a week on Wednesdays, Sundays, and occasionally Fridays. The team meets for long hours to work on developing both skills and theories of the case. The six members assigned to compete have been split into two groups of three- one to lead the defense and the other the prosecution. Aikman, Ferguson, and Hood are on the defense and Deshpande, Feng, and Taft were assigned to the prosecution. Deshpande states, “I’m very excited for this season, but I am also very nervous because it requires in-depth work from knowing all the rules of evidence to every detail of the case and its witnesses.”
