Conway’s High School Mountain Bike team, The “Bearcats” recently competed in race #3 of the National Interscholastic Cycling Association (NICA) series for Arkansas.  20 teams were present from around the state of Arkansas.  Conway athletes had strong performances  and led the Bearcats to their 2nd visit to the coveted NICA podium for Division 1 teams (large teams).  Rain for several days leading up to the race make conditions more challenging with muddy conditions as the racers completed laps on the 3.5 mile course.

Conway High riders Bryan and Garrett Pendergraft led the charge with a 2nd in Varsity and 1st in JV while Sophomores Rayna Vankeuren and Levi Garrett leading the team and  finishing 2nd and 3rd respectively in their classes.   Fellow Conway student athletes Ethan Uhlfelder, Adrian Esparza, and Colby Thompson all had strong finishes from the core of the team roster that led to the team’s overall success.

Each Bearcat athlete’s individual results contribute to the team score.  The team will travel to the last race of the season at Eureka Springs on November 4th.  Check out Arkansas High School Mountain Bike racing at www.arkansasmtb.org.
