Opinion: Zucchini Burgers, A Healthy Alternative

Brooklyn Ruth, Jr. High Writer

When you go to a barbecue you’ll see food like ribs, chicken wings, and hotdogs. However, you might have a family member, or yourself, who has recently went on a diet. So, the question is what do you do? Here’s my answer, you compensate by grilling zucchini burgers, a healthy alternative to hamburgers that is low in carbs and calories.

Almost every person who has tried them can agree with this. My grandmother was the one who introduced my family and me to know the joys of zucchini burgers. She says that “they are a good way to get your vegetables in and are perfect if you can’t have red meat.”

Zucchini burgers are made from 5 oz grated zucchini (when squeezed 4.25 oz), 1 lb (93%) lean ground turkey, 1/4 cup seasoned whole wheat breadcrumbs, 1 clove garlic, grated, 1 tbsp grated red onion, and 1 tsp kosher salt and fresh pepper. They can be made indoors in the oven or you can grill them outside. To accommodate for a gluten-free diet, just swap the whole wheat breadcrumbs with gluten-free ones.

So before the year is over, try something new by cooking yourself or your family a healthy, but tasty, zucchini burger. For more information, and more healthy recipes, visit: https://www.skinnytaste.com/
