Cheerleaders Prepare for State Competition

The Conway High Varsity Cheer team is working hard in preparation and anticipation for their upcoming state-wide competition on December 21st. For the first time in two years, they are competing in the 6A All-Girl division, rather than the 6A Coed division. There are 15 girls on the competition team, as well as 3 alternates who are heavily involved and ready to step in wherever help is needed.

Competition preparation began in September, as all members on the squad tried out to compete at state. Following the tryout, athletes with the most skill and experience were chosen to be on the competition team. After that, they had one practice a week dedicated to the state competition. As time has grown closer to December 21st, their daily practices slowly began to include competition skills. The team’s time and focus is now solely dedicated to state as football season came to a close.

Cheerleaders on the competition team participate in practices during the school day as well as two extra practices during the week. Doing well at state requires putting in hard work, and their team is doing just that. On this year’s team, many girls have talent and previous cheer experience. As a result, they have the opportunity to make history for the Conway High School cheer program. They have many goals, one of which being to perform to the best of their abilities and hit a routine that impresses the audience and other competitors. When asked about this year’s state competition, Head Coach Cindy Brown said,”[I’m] super excited about this year’s team and the talent and dedication they have! With state coming up, we’ve set team goals and plan to do our best win or lose!”
