District Closely Monitoring CoronaVirus

Gabriel Keymer, Staff Writer

At the present time are no cases of coronavirus in Conway Public Schools. District leaders are closely monitoring the situation and are making plans in the event of an outbreak. They are working with the health department, both local hospitals, and city leaders. In the event of an outbreak in the community, the health department would likely recommend action if a school needed to be closed.

Yesterday afternoon, the following statement was released to the district:

We do not have a confirmed case of COVID-19 in the Conway School District.

This morning we became aware that a student in our district is being quarantined by the State Department of Health as a protective measure relating to the COVID-19 virus.

The student has a sibling who recently traveled home from another country. In that country, the sibling was quarantined and has shown no symptoms. Now our student is being quarantined as a precaution. Neither has shown any symptoms of the virus.

The district continues to be proactive in our measures of prevention, and remains in contact with the State Health Department. Our communication with you on this developing situation will be ongoing.

Health recommendations include: washing hands with soap and water several times a day for at least 20 seconds, using hand sanitizer often, coughing/sneezing into sleeves or a tissue, and avoiding touching your face.
