The Wampus Cat basketball team is off to a 2-0 start in the 2021 conference season, opening with back-to-back home wins.

Conway opened conference play on Tuesday, January fourth, as the Cats hosted the Little Rock Southwest Gryphons at Buzz Bolding Arena. The Wampus Cats raced out to 38-20 lead at the break, and would at one point lead by 27 points as Conway cruised to a 80-57 victory to open conference play.

After their road trip to North Little Rock to face the star-studded Charging Wildcats was postponed due to covid concerns between both programs, the Cats would welcome the Cabot Panthers into Conway for their second conference game of the season.

After falling behind 25-22 at halftime, the Wampus Cats would use a strong third quarter to grab a 43-36 advantage heading into the final frame. Conway would survive a late surge from Cabot, as a last-chance three fell off the front rim, giving Conway a 53-51 victory and a 2-0 start in conference play.

After playing on cruise control for most of it’s previous game, the Panthers made Conway fight for all four quarters to earn it’s second conference victory. Conway Center Keiron Duncan said that “coming together, working as a team, and staying focused in the moment.” were the key factors in Conway’s victory over Cabot.

The Wampus Cats will continue play Tuesday night as they make the trip to North Little Rock to face the Charging Wildcats in a rescheduled game from Friday, January seventh.
