A seemingly simple topic that holds far more controversy than what it seems. Though book-to-screen adaptations have been produced for many years, they still manage to spark controversy amongst a few with differing few. But why is this a controversy? I mean wouldn’t a reader love to have their favorite book adapted to the big screen?  Well for some this isn’t the case because they’d much rather not have any sort of film adaptations simply because it is their favorite book. But while that may seem odd let me explain, it’s not the fact that wouldn’t love to see the book come to life, it’s the fact that they know they will mess it up. Take Percy Jackson for example, a very well know book series by Rick Riordan, in 2010 the book series was turned into a movie but it didn’t end up sitting well with many loving fans. They ended up skipping and leaving out many important aspects of the books. As well as messing up the character’s ages and certain traits that readers loved. Needless to say, fans weren’t happy about this. And many others can agree with this as a reason why these adaptations can suck. For example, Riley Payne, a fellow reader says, “ I don’t like book to film adaptations because, in some books, they describe how the character is feeling but in movies, you just have to assume whats going on in their head and it distracts  you from the aspect of those characters.” However, even though many may not like them,  others seem to love them. Taking Hanna Jean, who on the contrary enjoys the thrill of them, “I love them only because I get to watch what I’ve been imagining in m head on screen and like the action scenes are so much better in the movies than they are in the books.” And like her, many agree getting to see what you have been imagining in your head on film can truly be a phenomenal experience. As well as getting to see all the characters and scenes come to life not just in your head but on film is quite amazing. But in reality, if you do or do not like them just depends on your preference, not one person is going to love them or hate them. There will always be something one person likes or dislikes about it. However, one thing that is for sure is that nothing will top the book.
