The Wampus Cat baseball team recently played the Northside Grizzlies at home on Friday, April 1. The game was a hard-fought battle, but Conway was awarded a conference win with a final score of 2-0. The Wampus Cats capitalized on every free base, being forced to play “small ball”. Defensively, senior pitcher Austin Rainey started for the Wampus Cats, throwing for 3 innings with 4 strikeouts. Following, junior pitcher Preston Prock came in relief for 2 innings, also having 4 strikeouts. Lastly, junior left-handed pitcher Hugh Hill closed the game, pitching 2 ⅔ innings adding 4 more strikeouts. The three pitchers threw a combined no-hitter, leading Conway to victory.

Beating Northside was a great accomplishment for Conway, as they are now 3-1 in conference play after losing non-conference games to talented Jonesboro and Sheridan teams. Rainey said,”We lost energy late in the game, but kept battling. We didn’t get satisfied with our lead until the end of the game because we stayed focused the entire game.” In the near future, Conway has scheduled games on the road against Little Rock Central on Tuesday, April 5, and at home against Catholic on Friday, April 8. They are hopeful to continue their conference winning streak.
