I believe that student-athletes should be given extra days to finish their school work if they have a game. Student-athletes have to juggle school work, practices every day, games, and studying for tests and quizzes. Having all of this on your plate can cause a lot of stress and chaos in your life.
To help reduce this stress, I believe teachers could give these students extra days to finish their work. This rule could only apply when the student-athletes have a game or if they are preparing for a big event, like a state tournament. I know that I struggle to study for a test/quiz whenever I have a game. For example, I came home from an away game a few weeks ago and the last thing I wanted to do was study because I was so tired. I tried to study for as long as I could, but then I ended up falling asleep with my flashcards in my bed. I ended up not doing very well on my test.
If teachers gave me an extra day to study for this quiz/test then I could perform much better on it. I also understand that I need to learn to manage my time better and study much more before the quiz. However, if the teacher gave student athletes more grace than our grade averages would increase majorly. Student-athletes also struggle with mental exhaustion, anxiety, and depression because of all the stress they have to go through.
If the student-athletes no longer have to worry so much about their stress for school, then their lives might be much easier. This could lift a major weight off of student-athletes’ shoulders to help them with their grade and their performance in their sport. I know this is a lot to ask for teachers to do, but this involves a large majority of the students at Conway High School.
