On December 7, 2023, the Conway High School Speech and Debate team headed to New Orleans, Louisiana for the Isidore Newman High School Invitational. The team brought thirteen students to compete in a multitude of speech and debate events such as Lincoln-Douglas debate, Public Forum, Original Oratory, and Program of Oral Interpretation. This tournament attracted competitors from sixty schools across twelve different states. It is stated to be the largest speech and debate competition within the Southeastern region. Over three days of competition, Conway High School students competed in over six rounds, for a total of ten hours. Conway brought home many awards from the large pool of over five-hundred students across twenty events. Chloe Spearmon, senior placed first in the event Program of Oral Interpretation- an original interpretive speech event. Senior, Avery Ferguson placed fifth in Original Oratory- a ten minute long speech event. Sophomore Addison Choate placed third in Novice Lincoln-Douglas debate, and sophomores Cole Brit and Mustfa Zia ranked third in Novice Public Forum debate. Conway High brought home multiple awards over the course of an action packed weekend before returning to school to complete the semester.
