Wrestling is a sport where two individuals engage with the aim of throwing or holding their opponent’s shoulders to the ground or else outscore them during the match. The Conway High School wrestling team has been very successful this year so far. One of their best wrestlers, Cash Cavender, has been a huge factor in the team’s success this season. In their most previous tournament, he placed 1st, which is very impressive. Cash says that a big part of doing good is practice and trying to become the best you can before a match. This is his second year wrestling for Conway and he says, “Wrestling has helped me strive to work my hardest in practice so I can excel in the matches.” Cash has a bright future in wrestling and it is going to be exciting to see what else he can do this season. Ismael Ibra is a senior on the wrestling team and he also is a major factor for the Conway wrestling team. He says, “I enjoy wrestling because it keeps me out of trouble and it helps me keep good grades in school. Our coaches are very strict about us keeping up with our school work and our grades.” Both of these young men lead their team and are role models for upcoming wrestlers. A junior, John Paul Saxton, started wrestling this year. He has always been known for his incredible talent in football. He says, “It is a different environment than football, but I really enjoy getting stronger and learning how to play a new sport. The team has been very welcoming and the coaches really push me to be my best.” The Conway High School wrestling team is just getting started, they are continuing to work and try their hardest in every match. Keep your eye out for this team and try to catch a few matches this season!
