“Full Swing” is a three-season collaboration between Netflix and PGA which aired in 2023. The show gives a behind-the-scenes look at the lives of professional golfers. Not only does the show focus on golf but the complicated feelings and situations that arise simultaneously. The feedback from the first two seasons were mainly positive, and a third aired earlier this year.
Season three begins following new and upcoming golfers Ludvig Aberg and Neal Shipley. They highlight the Masters tournament and how both of them handled the added pressure of winning and competing against their heroes. I enjoyed how they showed how much goes into preparing for the Masters and how Neal Shipley got into the Masters tournament.
Next, Episode two follows the friendships of Rory Mcllroy and Shane Lowry, as well as Nick Taylor and Adam Hadwin. It highlights the importance of friendship and how having a trusted friend in golf can boost someone’s confidence and can improve their season. I liked how they showed how both parties rely on each other in not just golf but in life as well.
Episode three follows Bryson Dechambeau and Rory Mcllroy during the US Open tournament. The show did a great job at showing how Bryson went from one of the most disliked professional golfers to one of the most beloved. They showed how cruel golf can be by showing how close Rory was to winning the US Open. I also liked how they showed the Scottie Scheffler arrest and how everything went down in that situation.
Episode four is about the golfer’s best friend on the course. This episode follows Ted Scott and Carl Smith who caddie for Scottie Scheffler and Sahith Theegala. I like how Netflix highlights both backgrounds and how they became caddies for both Scottie and Sahith. I feel like Netflix did a good job on showing how important the caddie is to the sport of golf.
Episodes 5-7 show how hard golf is, how much it means to the golfers, and how golf isn’t as important as being healthy and spending time with your family. Episodes 5 and 7 highlight how representing the country that you’re from is important. Min Woo Lee finds himself in position to play in the Olympics for team Australia and learns that it isn’t so easy. And in episode 7 shows how the US rebounded from their Ryder Cup loss from the year before. I like how Netflix shows how much pride is in representing your country in golf.
Episode 6 follows Gary Woodland who is a professional golfer who had to have brain surgery to remove a tumor in his brain. Netflix did a great job in showing how much Gary loves his family and how strong of a person he is in fighting his way back to playing golf again.
Overall, I like the entire season 3 of “Full Swing”, and like how Netflix covered the 2024 season. I feel like people should watch this season to get an inside look into what goes on in a professional golfer’s life both on the course and off the course.
