The Conway Boys Baseball and Lady Cats Softball have been on a roll lately as both are performing well. The Boys Baseball team is undefeated so far this season with a record of 12-0 and they are the best baseball team in 6a Central. The Lady Cats Softball has also seen success this season as they are 7-2.
The Boys Baseball recently played in the Robinson Invitational at Joe T. Robinson High School and they went 3-0 on the weekend. Their first game in this tournament was against Enid High from Oklahoma. They played the entire game down and were dominated by Enid as in the bottom of the 9th they were down 4-0. This would quickly change as in the final two pitches of the game they would come back and score 5 runs. This magic started when London Stewart hit a double which resulted in two other Conway players scoring; then on the next play, Carter Crow hit a 3 run- home run to give Conway the 5-4 win. Crow described the strengths of this team as, “We have a lot of depth and a lot guys that can play well and everybody plays for each other.”
Conway would have other convincing wins against Kickapoo and Raymore- Peculiar. Conway won 5-1 against Kickapoo, and they won 6-2 against Raymore- Peculiar. Recently, they beat Cabot 8-5 to continue their undefeated season. The Wampus Cats are rolling and they look to continue their momentum as they continue their success, which they look to translate into postseason success and a state championship.
The Lady Cats Softball team has been playing well this season, as they have been on a solid winning streak. One of their biggest strengths of this team are their youth as they only have two seniors on their roster right now. This highlights that their regular season success is likely due to incredible performances from their Junior players Slyvia King, Analise Benton, Bryar White, and Shelby Brock. This great performance from these underclassmen and younger players demonstrates that the Lady Cats softball team has a bright future ahead of themselves. Left fielder, Benton said one of the strengths of this team is that. “ We all have a really good bond and vibes and all the players are really connected.” The Lady Cats recently lost 10-2 to a good Bryant softball team and they look to rebound as they will go to a tournament in Bentonville West and will play 3 games and hopefully build some momentum to continue the rest of their season strong.
