Jack Starnes, also known as J-Steezy, is a senior heavily involved in the Conway Band programs. He has been in the band since 6th grade, where he started at the Carl Stuart band. He chose the saxophone as his instrument and has been dedicated to it ever since. His passion for band has been highlighted throughout his accomplishments since ninth grade. He has made the All-Region band every year since ninth grade and has also made All-Region jazz every year since ninth grade as well. He has also made the more prestigious band clinic, All-State his sophomore, junior, and senior years. This clinic highlights Arkansas’ top musicians.
In addition to his mastery of the saxophone skills, he is also a talented composer and musician overall. Jack was one of the three drum majors of the Conway High School band this past marching season. Starnes describes the experience as “very different than marching it was less on the field and more emphasis on directing and putting together the show.” He has also been involved in Crunk Crew since junior year where he is affectionately known as J- Steezy. Starnes said his favorite part about being in was “getting the student section hype in the 3rd quarter.”
Jack has undoubtedly left his mark on Conway’s band program and has cemented his legacy as one of the greatest saxophone players ever to attend Conway High. Starnes is going to UCA in the fall and he plans to major in music education and composition and will also participate in marching season this upcoming fall.
