Friday night lights marked an anticipated moment for the student body but also for senior quarterback Wesley Tapp, making his debut as starting quarterback. Although the game began with challenges—Jonesboro tying and at times leading the Cats—the team’s resilience showed. After halftime, the Cats found renewed focus and secured a 68-37 victory. Friday night set a standard that he would like to keep up, which is praying before kick-off. Tapp said that this is a big deal for the culture of the team this year. He reflected positively on his ability to read plays under pressure and credited teammates Kambrien Blackmon, who scored the first touchdown, and Alex McCray for standout performances. Throughout the game, he tried to visualize the game, each play, and touchdown. Also, in an earlier interview, Tapp mentioned that his ideal completion rate for each game is 65%. While that goal was not achieved this game, his confidence in achieving it remains strong. Overcoming adversity with a win sets a positive tone, and Tapp sees continual growth—both physical and mental—as key to the team’s success.
