From a little girl who enjoyed Legos and solving puzzles to being nominated to represent Arkansas as a Delegate at the Congress of Future Medical Leaders in Summer 2026, Sidney Hinojosa has always been an advanced thinker. Not only is Hinojosa’s intelligence undeniable, but her caring character also sets her apart.
After attending a middle school competition that targeted young girls to pursue careers and explore opportunities in STEM, her perspective on the STEM field for girls shifted. Stepping out of her comfort zone and winning three competitions, this experience fueled Hinojosa’s passion for math and science. She says that she enjoys “learning new things no matter the subject” because she can “gain a little bigger window on how the world works.” Currently, she is interested in biochemistry as it “explains how our bodies do so many complex things,” and she aspires to become a doctor. While that might change, Hinojosa is certain that she wants to create more space for women in STEM.
Her passion and drive is a defining trait, but so is her determined character. She prides herself in consistency in her relationships with others, saying, “academics are just one part of my life, and I would much rather sacrifice an assignment and have good relationships with the people around me than scramble for a few extra points.” Her friends add that “her ability to balance and handle everything on her plate efficiently is admirable.” She is confident that no matter where she ends up, she will inspire others.
