Apphia Boswell might seem like just a regular junior at Conway High School, but she’s more than just ordinary. Juggling 5 AP classes, Senior Beta Club, and whatever else life throws at her she still finds time to train in martial arts. Boswell says that while she has tried many different activities, including dancing, martial arts is the only thing that has interested her.

Boswell has trained in martial arts for four and half years. When Boswell started, she didn’t think that it would be long term. Boswell says that “taking five AP classes can be very stressful but that martial arts is her outlet.” Boswell has accomplished many things through martial arts; she claims that she’s more disciplined and that her mental health is better. Boswell is a black belt and said that her ultimate goal is to become a sixth degree master, which is the highest level you can reach. Boswell also mentioned that she has made many friends since beginning in martial arts.

When Boswell gets home from school she does most of her homework because she trains at night. Boswell trains anywhere from 1-2 hours a day. She says that sometimes she trains and spends the rest of her time at the gym. Boswell suffers from insomnia so training so much doesn’t affect her sleep. But how does she have time for everything? Well, it’s all on a schedule. Boswell also says that she is OCD about time, so she schedules everything which helps her do what she does.

She is going to continue with martial arts throughout her life. She plans on teaching a women’s self defense class at the university she attends, and plants to study and focus on writing,

“I think that everyone needs to take some form of martial arts because it’s beneficial in physical and mental ways as well.”
