As election day is getting closer and closer the battle between candidates is getting more heated. I asked on my Instagram whether students at CHS supported either Trump or Biden.

Here’s what Holden Clark says as to why he supports Biden, “I support Biden because he believes in protecting the rights of women, LGBTQIA+ people, and people of color. He also believes in science which makes him a stronger candidate because he is willing to listen to the scientists and do what’s best for the people. He also wants to raise taxes on the wealthy so that the community will get the support it needs. Lastly he wants to make health care affordable and accessible to everyone in need.” Vic Hagan, another student who supports Biden, says, “I support Biden because he wants to do more for the climate change crisis that is currently effecting America in irreversible ways and he wants to wipe out covid quick and effectively by enforcing masks.”

I also asked the people the support Trump why, here’s what Hailey Bearden had to say, “…Trump has made agriculture very good this year and my mother got a job for the first time in 7 years due to the jobs that Trump has added to the economy … No I don’t like all the language that Trump uses, but I think that gives an appeal to the common man as well. … I feel like Trump, even with heart conditions, is healthier than Biden as well…” Cade Robinson, who also supports Trump, said “Yea for sure, it’s simply because most of his policies line up with what I believe in. I also think he is truly commendable because of the way he faces adversity and becomes a better president from it.”

I also sent a message to Audrey Walthall because she said that she didn’t really like either of them. She said “Honestly, I don’t really like either of them. I respect Biden more mostly because Trump is racist, sexist, homophobic, and, frankly, just uncivil and unrefined. In this election, you just have to pick the lesser of two evils, which, in my opinion, is Biden. I also respect Biden’s values more: pro-mask, pro-vax, criminal justice reform, undo Trump’s immigration policies, etc.”

If you are eligible to vote do so because every vote counts in making America how you want it.
