The Conway Wampus Cat men’s basketball squad has played 12 games so far this season sitting at a record of 4-8. Two games have been canceled this season including a home game against Har-Bar, and an away game against Bentonville. Although the squad has had its ups and downs through the first half of the season the cats are starting to find their identity on the floor. The overall leadership of the squad has been amped up after the rough start. Seniors Jayden Williams and Omarrion Canady  have played a big part in taking leadership roles for this young team. You could say their leadership has rubbed off on younger guys as well. Junior Dwayne Lockhart has played a big role in this by being the guy to call when they need a bucket. Lockhart has emerged as the leading scorer on the team and is also racking up assists from setting up his teammates. The team didn’t have a clear cut guy at the start, and many were speculating on who would be the guy(s) this year. The truth is this group of guys play better as a unit rather than having guys with a longer time of possession. This is not an iso basketball team, however, this is a squad full of grit and grind players that are selfless in their play. Senior Omarrion “O” Canady took some time to answer a few questions about the identity of the team and how he feels about his guys.

“I feel pretty good about the team. We are all getting in the gym, and we all show up for practice every day ready to compete and get better. We all make sure to get our own time in the gym to perfect all of our games which is very important too.” With seven more games left on the schedule including 3 away games the Cats are planning to propel their game to the best it’s been all season. Let’s see how the cats can rally back to where they envision being and see the hard work displayed on the hardwood.
