Key Club is a high school version of the UCA circle K. Mrs. Lancaster is the head teacher of this club because “I have assisted Mrs Aldrich with Key Club for the past three years. When Mrs. Aldrich left for another position in the school district, she asked me to take over Key Club. I have always volunteered in some capacity since I was in Junior High. I thought this was an excellent way for me to continue to help students to have that opportunity as well.” The whole high school is trying to volunteer 10,000 hours before the school year ends but Mrs. Lancaster would like for Key Club to reach at least 2,000 hours.

The members of the Key Club board are Ella Boudrie, the president, Meg Holland, vice president, Belle Irby, treasurer, Isani Patel, secretary, Avery Smith, social media person, Maggie Lyon, service chair, Brijhen Cremen, editor, Ysana-lei Fisher and Autumn Flynn, Fundraising, Gracie Garrison, athletic chair, Kayliegh Taylor, scrapbook, Keely McClellan, senior rep, Ava Jane Murphey, junior rep, and Karrsyn Vaughan, sophomore rep. The purpose of having a Key Club is “we are a service organization which seeks to build character in students through service (volunteering) and leadership opportunities.

Key club is one of the clubs that looks very nice on members’ college applications. When in Key club you get community service hours, members must have eight hours of community service. Four hours must be Key Club related services, and the other 4 can be outside service hours or Key Club related. Danika Em, a member of the club, says she joined Key Club because, “I love helping out with people who need help and if others are doing good things for you then you should help them back.” The upcoming service is this Friday where Key Club members will be at Julia Lee Moore’s fall festival helping with booths and concessions. Also member might be going to the GoStore on Saturday to help clean and organize items.
