Martin Luther King Jr was one of the biggest leaders in the civil rights movement. He led peaceful protests for the fight against racial injustice, and fought for the rights of African Americans during his time. MLK is still remembered today for his contributions towards the civil rights movement, and he even has his own holiday.

MLK was from Atlanta, Georgia which was known for being a racist state. One of the most famous speeches of MLK was his “I have a dream” speech. In his “I have a dream” speech, he talked about having one day a nation where people would not be judged by the color of their skin but by the conduct of their character. This was one of the most famous speeches in U.S. history and is still talked about today. MLK was a pastor of a baptist church. Some of his progress in the civil rights movement was inspired by his Christian faith.

MLK led many peaceful protests and boycotts for the fight against racial injustice. One of the most famous boycotts was the Montgomery Bus Boycott. This boycott was after Rosa Parks refused to give up her seat on a bus. During this boycott King was arrested. Some of the awards MLK won were the Nobel Peace Prize, and he was named Magazine’s man of the year in 1963. One of the ways that MLK is remembered today is through his holiday. MLK day is on the third Monday of January each year. However, when people love you, others hate you. MLK was shot and killed outside his room at a motel in Memphis, Tennessee on April 4th, 1968.

MLK was one of the biggest contributors to the civil rights movement, and is still remembered today for it. Through his peaceful protest and boycotts, our nation made a great strive against racial injustice, and it couldn’t have been done without him. Without MLK, the world would look a lot different than it is today.
