Mollie Sutton has been swimming since she was five years old. She joined the swim team her freshman year and now, as a senior, is team captain. “I didn’t know I was going to be captain. I consider it an honor not only because many people on the team first gave me the title but then Coach Conner gave it to me, which truly was an honor,” She says. Mollie has always tried to be a leader and help as many people as possible. In her sophomore year, she began writing sets when she was off from an intensive hip surgery. Since then, she has made it her job to step into the role of captain. Mollie broke her hip from a genetic disease called hip dysplasia. She was diagnosed at the beginning of the year, but that winter she had surgery at Boston’s Children’s Hospital. Thankfully, Mollie is back in the pool and is destroying the competition.
This season the girls’ swim team has won every single meet. Not only have they beaten their rivals Central High School, once, but twice. They are projected to be conference champions. There is no question that Mollie is dedicated to CHS Swim, and to swim in general! She says she owns almost 20 practice suits, which to the average person is about 20 pairs of jeans! “And then our tech suits,” Mollie says,” they’re like the equivalent of a prom dress.” After graduation, she plans to attend Colorado Mesa University on track to physical therapy school. Thinking back to her freshman year, she would tell her younger self to enjoy every moment and that even the bad races or failures are all stepping stones to success.
