Will Thompson started playing baseball for the Tigers Little League team when he was 6 years old. His love for the sport came from his Dad, David Thompson, who played baseball in high school.
He has been on the Conway High School baseball team all 4 years. Thompson’s first year on the team he played on the 9th and 10th grade team. He improved his skills and created bonds with teammates. Thompson looked up to prior junior Austin Rainey as a role model. Austin provided guidance in defense for Thompson. As a sophomore, he started for the Conway High School baseball team as the first baseman. He had one of the highest batting averages on the team as only a sophomore. Thompson hit a three-run home run to take the lead in the State Championship game in 2022. Thompson says, “That feeling was like no other, I had been working my whole life for a moment like that.” The Wampus Cat baseball team ended up winning the game 10-7. Thompson’s junior year he faced adversity but he is back and better than ever for his senior year. Thompson says, “I look forward to playing with my teammates for one final year.” As a senior, Will hopes to be an influential leader on the team to the underclassmen. The Conway High School baseball had their benefit game on Tuesday, February 20th. The Wampus Cats won 6-2 against Central Arkansas Christian. Thompson was the designated hitter for the game and he walked and had an RBI single in the 5th inning. The Conway High School baseball team hopes to strive throughout the rest of the season. Thompson says, “We only have 5 seniors this year. Our team is very young, but the talent of our underclassman will help us win many games.” Will Thompson is hoping to get one more ring his senior year! |
