Conway Wampus Cat Varsity Volleyball season is here and the Lady Cats are looking to make another deep run into the playoffs. They’re using lasy season’s 3-2 state championship loss as motivation to push themselves and to play their best on the court.
They’ve begun the season 5-1 and with sweeps of North Little Rock and Southwest and have also taken Cabot and Lakeside to 5 sets and they won 3-2 in those games.
What sets this team apart is the senior leadership. The seniors on this team – Laurel Wells, Ava Gipson, Madden Cabantac, Maddison Derden, Gray Denton, Megan Wilson, and Bishop Floyd – make sure their presence on the court is felt as there is always at least one senior in any given rotation. Each senior adds strength and consistency all around the court with Wells and Floyd as defensive specialists, Cabantac and Wilson as setters, and Gipson, Derden, Denton playing middle blockers and outside hitters.
The seniors all acknowledge something different about the atmosphere this year.Wells said, “This year’s team has a lot of experience and we have a lot of chemistry that translates to success on the court.”
The Lady Cats also have some skilled underclassmen making appearances on varsity including Anna Smith, Wren Jones, and Sylvia King. Overall the Wampus Cats are poised for success.
They take on conference rival Central on the road tonight at 6.
