Senior Carly Schluterman is involved in many different extracurricular activities in and outside of school. Her main focus is Delta Beta Sigma and has become part of her identity and shaped who she is as a person. “My sister was in DBS before me. Before I joined I didn’t have many opportunities outside of school and athletics, but DBS really opened me up to more opportunities and experiences,” Schluterman said. Schluterman has been in DBS for 3 years and worked her way up to being the President of the sorority. Her goal this year is to make DBS fun and memorable for all people. “Carly is able to create such a fun experience while also showing her ability to manage such a large part of her life,” Her little sister in DBS, Abby Slay, said. Her second year she ran for and achieved VP Philanthropy. “I hadn’t experienced community service before DBS and I really enjoyed it and wanted others to as well,” Schluterman said. Her Junior year as VP Philanthropy she learned from the former President, Sara Beth Hammons, and learned all of the responsibilities that come with the President position.
Rising into her senior year she learned that she loved the job and what she could accomplish if she took on the role. “As president I’m overseeing everyone and filling in the gaps where people aren’t doing their jobs,” Schluterman said. DBS has taught her how to be a leader and hold everyone accountable. “For the next president I would say try to please as many people as possible, but also know you won’t please everyone and that shouldn’t bother you,” Schluterman said.
“I want people to know everyone can be different and different can be fun,” Schluterman said. Schluterman is an aspiring FBI agent; she is interested in criminology and loves crime shows like Criminal Minds. “I love being able to observe people and I feel I’m very good at it which made me realize that I was interested in being an FBI agent,” Schluterman said. As senior year continues Schluterman is looking forward to dances and hanging out with her friends. “I love being a senior because it is so much easier and there is less homework,” Schluterman said.
Inside of school Schluterman will be a student director for the school musical this spring. “I took Mr. S’s class sophomore year and it was fun, then I did tech theater and got involved in the musical and saw how much fun it can be,” Schluterman said. She also has many hobbies outside of school like pickleball, taking walks, going to Shadrachs, and hanging out with her friends. “In our junior year we participated in a musical competition at the DBS National Convention. We worked really hard and planned months in advance. When the time of the competition came we were ready to perform and we won. Carly can make any experience a great one. She is funny, encouraging, and the best friend I could ask for,” Schluterman’s friend Ainsley Smith said. Schluterman is someone who strives towards her goals of being a good leader, an aspiring FBI agent, and a friend to everyone.
