Conway high school Spanish teachers offer students with an opportunity to expand their knowledge and challenge themselves with the National Spanish Exam that is taking place March 19 and 20 in the Annex building. The National Spanish exam, the optional assessment designed for students to recognize their skills.
Students will take the exam on chromebooks, there are two 45 minute sessions assessing reading and listening comprehension. The test is levelized and accounts for student language exposure outside the classroom as well. “I think the exam can be useful in the right situation and can help students better prepare themselves for taking the Seal of Biliteracy exam” said Spanish teacher Mr. Escalante. Landon Dowdy, who took the exam his sophomore year said,”the exam was definitely challenging but it was helpful in knowing what I struggled with.” Senior Aubrey Faulks, who took the National Spanish Exam her sophomore and the Seal of Biliteracy the following year said,”it gave me an idea of what the vocabulary would look like and what the comprehension questions would look like. I was more prepared for questions and words taht I did not see in class.”
It does not matter what grade the Spanish student has in class, they can still take the exam. The exam is taken by students across the country and provides an opportunity to rank nationally and statewide. Students that rank in a certain percent, in the state and country, will receive awards such as recognition or even money.
