Opening day for baseball was February 24, 2026 against PA for their annual benefit game. This allowed new players to shine and old players to shine even brighter. Although this game did not count for the team’s record, they won 6-3. This set the tone for every game following since; their first conference game was against Russelville and ended with yet another victory, 7-2.
Following these games, the team traveled to Memphis, Tennessee to compete against teams from across the region. They ended up beating Houston (TN) High School 7-5, and won their second game against Memphis University School 10-3. This tournament allowed for the players to be exposed to new teams and regions, and proved that they are capable of winning on and off of their own field.
Junior pitcher Nate Wanamaker and senior catcher Will Upton both feel hopeful about the rest of the season ahead of them. “I expect us to continue to play like this and compete well with some of the best teams in the state,” Wanamaker explains. Similarly, Upton explains how he “think[s] [they] can only move up, since [they] get better with more experience.”
“I’m excited to be with the team and getting the overall senior athletic experience.” Wesley Tapp said. It’s also been made obvious that if there’s a key competition, Bryant’s team is a main opponent. Between students and players, there’s no doubt that they always bring a good game. No matter the sport. With competitions like this, expectations have already been set. “We’ll dominate every time on the field and watch the team become the best version of themselves.” Tapp said.
Overall, the 2026 Wampus Cats Baseball season is full of possibilities. While anything could happen, signs point to a grand slam, and hopefully a State Championship.
