Due to the unexpected week students were given for the snow days this year, a new bell schedule has been put in place to account for the lost time. It was one of the many grueling options to keep from adding multiple make up days leading into the summer. Unfortunately, this schedule is planning on sticking around until the end of the school year. The opinions and attitudes on the subject are quickly fluctuating between students.
Obviously to many, the earlier start time has been an annoying adjustment given the morning schedule just changed from the same timing last year. This sudden shift has forced students back to square one. Those who had finally found more time for their morning routines, or had a nice break from not being late everyday, are the ones being affected the most. “Because of the morning schedule last year, I got to school late most of the time.” Said Mirian Santiago. “Now it’s just the same thing all over again.”
While coming to school earlier in the mornings is basically a recycled routine, the later dismissal time is something all new. Those five extra minutes may seem like a small adjustment, but they really put a drag on the end of the day. If they weren’t before, it’s definite that teachers and students are mentally checked out by then. “The morning schedule doesn’t really affect me,” said Celia Uriostegul. “But I don’t like the extra five minutes at the end.”
As the school continues with the updated bell schedule, everyone is still bearing with, and adjusting to the longer days. While some hope the routine will become easier over time, the extended schedule has remained a frequent topic of conversation throughout the school.

As a student here at CHS, It’s really put a rush on me to hurry up and get to school on time, wait in the breakfast line, eat my food, and be ready to get to class by 7:50. I’ve been used to leaving at 3:30, and adding an extra five minutes can make students (including myself) frustrated, and let it out on others…
