High school soccer players already have a huge workload, as the season falls at the tail end of the school year, but they also play a considerable number of games, considering the physical demands of the games and the distances we have to travel for some games. The players obviously have to put in some work to succeed, but they should not be physically and mentally drained after each game. Going to travel with their teammates is obviously fun, but it is just too much for us.
These student-athletes have to play every team in their conference, both home and away, for two months straight. Take into account that not only do they have to travel at least once a week, but they also have to run large amounts, with the average player covering six to seven miles, and some even running nine and a half miles. Professional players have come out multiple times complaining about the workload that they deal with. These are professional athletes who are saying this; we, as kids, just are not able to handle all this workload from games, school work, and life outside of that.
When I, for example, have to practice every day, study, or do homework, then on Tuesday I have to play a home game, have to practice for two days with no time to recover, make a trip to play an away, and then have to study to make sure I can keep up my grades to the best of my ability. That schedule is not only physically draining, but also mentally draining. That makes it very hard to keep going with it, then on top of that, you never know what could happen in between in your personal life, and just ruin the schedule.
Athletic directors and players should put their foot down. The athletes should be playing with at least three days of recovery to be able to at least get some sort of recovery in.

This is really good, I like the information and the empathy. The topic of mental health should be addressed more.

It’s not often stories will talk about the struggles within the sport, so reading this was very insightful.

This opinion piece is a great I like how the author used a lot of facts I do think he could’ve added more tips with the mental health part of the story.

this helped me realize how much athlete have to go through and how much athletes go through and how important it is that everyone takes a break once and a while and focus on their mental health

The opinion piece focuses on both mental and physical health which are explained well and understandable. The author should make another piece but focusing on how soccer plays can improve this issue!

This is a very insightful piece, I think a story on a student athletes overall experience and management tips building off of this would be amazing.

This is a great opinion piece but the author could’ve made it better by adding tips he used to help with his mental health

I think the overall story is good and I liked it but I feel like if the author would of put ways to prevent stress and mental problems.

This provides factual information with personal insight. Another personal insight passage would be great

This piece of writing is very well organized and makes good points with good context.
I think you would make a good story about more of your own personal experiences.

I agree! I’m glad someone is working towards a positive environment for our athletes.

This piece is eye-opening and really zooms in on the struggles that not everyone sees, or understands. I wonder if this experience is the same for other sports.

Soccer is a very challenging sport. I wish I knew more about the sport.

I agree with Arron Garcia student athletes have a huge work schedule and it’s hard to maintain unless you really love it. I think Arron should keep fighting for the athletes to get a longer rest before playing again.
Looking through the school news site I’ve found I wanna research and write about how hard a sports medical trainer day to day bases is.
