Emily Henry’s novel has now taken over Netflix and brought the rom com lovers with it. “People We Meet on Vacation” is her first adaptation to make the screen, and it has been immensely successful. “I really liked the movie. It has become a big deal on for you pages and taken over the rom-com genre,” said Brooklyn Martin. Estella Faria adds, “I read the book awhile ago and have not watched the movie yet. I may watch it when I am bored.”
How does the movie compare to the book? In many ways, the film is focused on its quirky script and cultural scenery. While this is attention grabbing and ultimately amusing, the film is missing strong concepts that were developed in the book.
One thing that stands out in the movie is the characters personality and overall appearance. A lot of fashion choices were made in the film that brought out their personalities much more than the book had described. However, the film was missing huge concepts that contributed to character development. A lot of major details were left open ended because there wasn’t enough time to include them. One being the vasectomy that Alex got for Poppy, the directors completely left the whole emphasis out in the film that was a major contribution to the plot in the book.
Ultimately, the movie is definitely a cute rom com to watch on a cozy afternoon. With lots of frilly dialogue, good acting, meet cutes, and vacations, this movie is a yes for me. However, if you are really interested in the full story of Poppy and Alex, the book is a necessity.
