The Conway Wampus Cats concluded non-conference play Friday night, welcoming the Ouachita Parish Lions out of Louisiana into John Mcconnell Stadium in Conway. The Wampus Cats were looking to close out their non conference season 3-0 against one of the top teams from Louisiana.

The Wampus Cat offense came out of the gates rolling, as junior QB Donovyn Omolo tossed two opening quarter touchdown passes. The running game began to impose it’s will in the second quarter as La La Smith and Boogie Carr would score back to back rushing touchdowns to put Conway up 28-7. Ouachita Parish would answer with back to back touchodwns of their own to pull back within 28-20, before a late touchdown drive would give the Cats a 35-20 halftime lead they would not relinquish. The second half would see Conway score 28 unanswered points as Conway would cruise to a statement making 63-20 victory.

The Conway offense shined once again on Friday, as the Cat’s put up nearly 600 yards of offense for the second time this season. Omolo finished with 380 yards and 5 passing touchdowns, also adding a QB sneak for a 6th touchdown. Senior receiver Rome Fields caught 12 passes for 134 yards and a receiving touchdown. Boogie Carr added 101 yards rushing and a touchdown on 15 carries, along with 78 receiving yards and a touchdown on 4 receptions. “We sent a message to other states that Arkansas football is just as competitive as any other state and that we won’t back down from playing anybody.” said Carr after the win.

The Wampus Cats will begin 7A Central play this week as the Cats travel to LR Southwest for the first time in program history, after the Cats first scheduled trip in 2020 was canceled due to COVID-19. The Wampus Cats will look to start the season 4-0 for the first time since 2018.
