Art teacher Crystal Certain runs three different pantries for CHS students. The first food pantry is located in Certain’s classroom on the second floor. Certain receives donations from the community and through Facebook.

“Arkansas is second in the nation for food insecurity for kids, we can do better,” said Certain. There is another pantry cart in Ms. Fason’s room, and there is also a “take an item home” in HUB/JAG program room. Certain says that students do their best learning when they can focus, and that students won’t be able to focus if they are hungry.

The food pantry has also impacted students in a good way. “It has made school more welcoming. When you come in and you haven’t eaten or need something it is nice to know that Mrs. Certain has your back,” said sophomore Jacob Kaufman.

The food pantry is open before the 8:10 bell and after sixth and seventh period.
